The second-largest city in the Indian state of Rajasthan and the second metropolitan city of the state- Jodhpur can be well described as the most princely city of Rajasthan.
It features the princely places, forts, and temples, set in the stark landscape of the Thar Desert.
Such as Jaipur is famously known as ‘The Pink City’, this city is popularly known as ‘The Blue City’.
Everything either has a spiritual or scientific reason. Well, an established belief that the shade of the Blue is for the Brahmins, and Jodhpur has a population of the Brahmins and properties for the same. This shade was generally from the dye of indigo that was being painted.
From the Mehrangarh Fort, a lane leads up the 125-metre high which the ancient fortress is built. The walls are as high as 36 feet. From here, you can look out the city painted all in blue.
In addition, there is also a science behind this blue tint. Jodhpur faces a high temperature in the summer receiving the highest solar power per unit area. The colour blue is a good reflector of sun rays that keeps the houses comparatively cool.
Mythically spealing, there is another reason why the people of Jodhpur still follow this tradition to paint the city in blue. Being a Shiva Bhakt, and the blue colour which is a dedication to Lord Shiva being ‘neelkanth’, the city gets paint in the shade blue.
This city of Blue-tint is extremely unique in its culture, tradition as well as architectural contribution.

The fort sits on a Mountain cliff which was known as Bhakur-cheeria which means the ‘Mountain of Birds’.
This fort holds lot of horrific stories from the past. Very roughly the fort was cursed by a hermit to face many droughts. Another story sits here that relates to HUMAN SACRIFICES inside the fort. It is said that four people were buried alive at the four corners of the fort in the belief that those four souls will protect the fort for ever. While these sacrifices were given without the prior notice to that particular person whose life would be sacrificed by the king.
